HCA-NAC Bridge Program

Program Overview
The HCA–NAC Bridge Program at Sparkle Training Center is an accelerated training pathway designed for Washington State–credentialed Home Care Aides (HCAs) who are advancing to Nursing Assistant–Certified (NAC) status.
This program focuses on competencies not covered in the DSHS 75-hour HCA training and prepares students to successfully complete the Washington State Department of Health Nursing Assistant Certification (NAC) competency examination.

Total Program Hours: 40 hours (5 days)

In-person classroom & skills lab:

Monday – Thursday | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Clinical Experience (1 mandatory day):

Friday | 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM

Conducted at a clinical nursing facility under the supervision of a nursing instructor

Program Objectives
​
Our program is designed to meet the objectives for standards of practice and competencies for nursing assistants according to the Washington State Administrative Code (WAC-246-841-100).
​
Program objectives include:

Prepare students for the Washington State DOH Nursing Assistant Certification exam.

Develop essential competencies for working within a healthcare team.
-
Foster skills in patient rights, communication, safety, infection control, and personal care.

Train in hands-on nursing assistant skills such as vital signs, personal hygiene, bed making, nutrition, cognitive impairment care, and end-of-life care.

Promote professional behavior, respect, and quality of life in caregiving.
Learning outcomes:
Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:

Demonstrate nursing assistant competencies required for NAC certification

Apply safety and infection control practices in clinical settings
-
Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members

Perform delegated nursing assistant tasks under the supervision of licensed nurses
-
Successfully complete the Washington State Nursing Assistant Certification examination
Admission Requirements

To enroll in the HCA–NAC Bridge Program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

Required Credentials:

Active Washington State Home Care Aide (HCA) license
​
English Proficiency (WAC 490-105-140)
-
Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency through one of the following:

High school diploma from a school where English is the primary language, or
-
High school equivalency or GED certificate, or
-
Passing score on an approved English proficiency exam (TOEFL, IELTS, or equivalent)

Additional Requirements

Pass background check
-
A criminal record does not automatically disqualify a student but may affect clinical placement and future employment.

Negative 2-step TB skin test within the last 12 months or a negative chest X-ray
-
Ability to physically perform nursing assistant duties, including standing, lifting, moving, and transferring patients
