(NAC) Program

Program Overview

 

Sparkle Training Center objectives are to provide training and education to prepare students for the Nursing Assistant Certification through the Washington State Department of Health.

 

The curriculum and training will prepare the student to provide care while maintaining the dignity, respect, and quality of life of the one in need.

 

The program is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and professional standards required to provide care for the population in need in various settings.​​​​​

Program Length & Schedule

 

Total Program Hours: 112 hours (approximately 3 weeks)

​

Schedule

  • In-person theory & skills lab:
    Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

  • Clinical Practicum (5 mandatory days):
    6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
    Conducted at a clinical nursing facility under the supervision of a nursing instructor

​Sequence of Instruction & Clock Hours

  • Classroom Instruction: 37 hours
    (Theory, lecture, videos, and group discussions)

  • Skills Lab: 35 hours

  • Clinical Practicum: 40 hours

Program Objectives

​

This program meets the standards of practice and competency requirements for nursing assistants as outlined in Washington Administrative Code (WAC 246-841-100).

 

Core Curriculum Topics Include:

  • Client and patient rights & promotion of independence

  • Communication and interpersonal skills

  • Safety and infection control

  • Personal care, hygiene, and comfort

  • Basic nursing skills (including vital signs)

  • Basic restorative services

  • Mental health and cognitive impairment care

  • Life transitions and end-of-life care

 

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate essential skills in patient care, including bathing, feeding, ambulation, and vital signs. 

  • Apply infection control practices and adhere to patient safety guidelines. 

  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members. 

  • Perform delegated nursing tasks under the supervision of licensed nurses. 

  • Prepare for and successfully pass the Washington State Nursing Assistant Certification Exam.

 
Admission Requirements

​

To enroll in the Nursing Assistant Certification (NAC/CNA) Program, students must meet the following requirements:

English Proficiency (WAC 490-105-140)

  • Students must have adequate English language proficiency as evidenced by: (WAC 490-105-140) 

  • A High school diploma from a high school where English is the primary language; or 

  • A high school recognized equivalency or General Education Development (GED) certificate, 

  • A passing score or proof of English proficiency (TOEFL/IELTS or approved evaluation)​

Additional Requirements:

  • Pass background check

    • A criminal record does not automatically disqualify a student but may affect clinical placement and future employment.

  • Negative 2-step TB skin test within the last 12 months or a negative chest X-ray

  • Ability to physically perform nursing assistant duties, including standing, lifting, moving, and transferring patients

  • $900 (w/o taxes) (Save $50 — normally $950)

    • Includes:

      • $50 non-refundable registration fee

        • Background check

        • Student ID

 

Required Materials

  • Textbook & Workbook: $30.00

 

Additional Licensure & Exam Fees

(Paid separately by the student)

  • Washington State Skills Exam: $100.00

  • Written Exam Fee (Credentia): $55.00

  • Washington State Nursing Assistant Certification Application (DOH): $85.00​​
