Program Overview

 

The Home Care Aide (HCA) Program at Sparkle Training Center prepares students for entry-level careers providing compassionate, person-centered care to seniors and individuals with disabilities in home and community-based settings throughout Washington State.

 

Approved by the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), this 75-hour certification program combines flexible online coursework with in-person skills training. Students develop the knowledge and practical skills needed in caregiving, communication, infection prevention, safety, dementia care, and mental health support to meet Washington State Home Care Aide certification requirements.

Upon successful completion, graduates are eligible to take the Washington State Home Care Aide certification exam and pursue careers with home care agencies, adult family homes, assisted living communities, residential care facilities, and other community-based care providers.

Program Length & Schedule

 

Total Program Hours: 75 hours (approximately 3 weeks)

Online Coursework (59 Hours)

Complete the required theory courses at your own pace, including:

  • Safety & Orientation – 5 Hours

  • Core Basic Training – 38 Hours

  • Dementia Specialty Training – 8 Hours

  • Mental Health Specialty Training – 8 Hours

 

In-Person Skills Lab (16 Hours)

Students attend instructor-led skills training at our center to practice essential caregiving techniques, including:

  • Safe transfers and mobility assistance

  • Personal care skills

  • Infection prevention and standard precautions

  • Vital caregiving procedures

  • Hands-on competency evaluation

 

Students may begin their online coursework immediately after enrollment and schedule their required in-person skills lab with our instructor after their first week of training.

 
Who This Program Is For

This program is ideal for:

  • First-time healthcare students

  • Individuals seeking a fast entry into the healthcare field

  • Caregivers employed by home care agencies or assisted living facilities

  • Anyone interested in building a foundation for future healthcare careers, including CNA, nursing, or other allied health professions

 

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate essential skills in patient care, including bathing, feeding, ambulation, and vital signs. 

  • Apply infection control practices and adhere to patient safety guidelines. 

  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members. 

  • Perform delegated nursing tasks under the supervision of licensed nurses. 

  • Prepare for and successfully pass the Washington State Nursing Assistant Certification Exam.
